Apostille: What It Is and How It Works for Iranians in Turkey

An apostille is a stamp or certificate that grants international legal validity to official or public documents. It is used by countries that are part of the 1961 Hague Convention to simplify the legal procedures needed to verify documents across borders.

Apostille Conditions for Iranians in Turkey

Since Iran is not a member of the Hague Convention, Iranian documents cannot be directly apostilled. Therefore, Iranians who wish to use their documents in Turkey (or other countries) must follow specific procedures:

🔹 Step 1: Translation

Documents must be officially translated into the language of the destination country.
This can be done in two main ways:

✅ Option 1: Getting the certificate from Iran:

  1. Get your document certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran.

  2. Then, take it to the Turkish consulate in Iran for further stamping (a fee will apply).

  3. After entering Turkey, go to the Turkish governor’s office (Kaymakamlık) to receive the apostille stamp.

✅ Option 2: Getting the certificate from Turkey:

  1. Visit the Iranian Consulate in Turkey to obtain your certificate.

  2. Then, take it to the Turkish governor’s office for the apostille stamp.
