Running a company in Türkiye: monthly costs, the accountant, the office, and closing it

Registering a company is a one-off cost. What surprises people is what comes after: the accountant, insurance, filings and the office. Here is what a small Turkish company really costs to keep, and what to know before you ever close one.

At a glance

  • Accountant (mali müşavir): mandatory; from about TRY 7,500 a month, depending on your activity.
  • Self-employment insurance (Bağ-Kur): about TRY 11,000 a month once you hold a work permit through the company.
  • No activity still costs: about TRY 2,000 a month for filings and paperwork.
  • Office: a virtual office is enough for registration in many cases.
  • Closing (tasfiye) takes months, and a work permit tied to the company ends with it.

The accountant is mandatory

Every company in Türkiye must work with a licensed accountant (mali müşavir), who files its monthly and annual returns. Each accountant sets their own price, but fees start from about TRY 7,500 a month and rise with the volume of your activity. We introduce you to a reliable one.

Insurance and the quiet months

If you take a work permit through your company, self-employment insurance (Bağ-Kur) is currently about TRY 11,000 a month. And even if the company does nothing at all, filings and paperwork still cost about TRY 2,000 a month. Budget for both before you register.

Do you need a real office?

Not necessarily. You can rent a virtual office: in practice you rent the address, and the company's post and cargo are delivered there. We can find you the best-value virtual office.

Which city?

Istanbul is usually the first choice for its market, banks and access to customers, but office rent and living costs there are higher. Ankara, İzmir or Antalya can be more economical depending on your activity and target market, and the registered city can be changed later.

Do you need to be in Türkiye?

For most of the work, no: the company can be registered remotely with a power of attorney. Some steps, such as opening a bank account and the fingerprinting for residence, usually need you in person.

Closing a company, and your residence

Closing a company in Türkiye is a formal liquidation (tasfiye) that usually takes several months, and tax and insurance debts must be settled first. Most importantly: a work permit you hold through that company ends when the company does. Change your residence type or prepare another route before closing; the order of steps matters, so plan it with us before doing anything.
