How to Get a Turkish Driver’s License

You are allowed to drive in Turkey with your current foreign driver’s license for up to 6 months. If you plan to stay in Turkey longer than 6 months, you can convert your foreign license to a Turkish one.

This process is simple and does not require a driving test.

After receiving your residence permit in Turkey, you should visit the local District Governor’s Office (Kaymakamlık) to begin the license conversion process.

You’ll need the following documents:

  • Your original driver’s license translated and certified by your country’s consulate, and then verified by the governor’s office.

  • A copy and original of your driver’s license.

  • A copy and original of your Turkish residence permit.

  • Two biometric photographs.

  • Your most recent educational certificate translated into Turkish.

  • A health report including your blood type, issued by a hospital.

  • A criminal record certificate obtained via e-Devlet.

  • Receipt of payment for the conversion process.

💡 Note: The license card fee changes frequently. To check the latest costs, visit the official government site nvi.gov.tr.

After preparing the required documents, you can book an appointment via the website or by calling 199, and submit your documents on the assigned date and time.
